A Thing Called Love (Pride Oregon Book 8) Page 18
When Conner sat back down, she smiled as a name came to her.
“Shadow,” she said clearly, causing Conner’s eyebrows to shoot up.
“Hm?” he asked as he helped the small dog up on to the sofa.
“His name is Shadow. Because he follows you around everywhere.” She chuckled when the puppy climbed onto her lap and quickly fell asleep.
Conner smiled. “I like it much better than Ralph,” he admitted, leaning over and kissing her. “Now that we have the first new member of our family…” He kissed her again, but just then his cell phone rang. He let out a large sigh before answering it.
She half listened to his side of the conversation and focused even more when his eyes met hers and he frowned over at her. He hung up after only saying a few words.
“Who was that?” she asked.
“Aiden.” He tucked his phone back into his jeans. “They’ve found Kurt Collins.”
“That’s good news.” She felt much better knowing the man who had shot her was off the streets. “Where did they find him?” she asked.
“Just on the other side of the California state line.” He stood up to look out the window.
“Good. He’ll go to jail then?” she asked.
Conner shook his head and looked back at her. “No, he’s dead. It appears that drove his blue truck off a cliff along Highway One. We won’t be able to get answers from him now. We may never know if Thomas Carson hired him to shoot you or not.”
She watched the frustration on his face grow to anger.
“Conner.” She waved him towards her. When he sat back down beside her, she took his hand in her good one. “It no longer matters. I’m here, safe and sound. The police have extra patrols around town and the next time Thomas Carson steps foot in Pride, he’ll have an escort right back out of town.”
Conner sighed and nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. I had just hoped that we could actually tie this to the man so we could lock him up.”
“Let’s not spend my first night home thinking about him.” She shifted the small dog in her lap.
“Right,” Conner reached over and stroked his finger down the small dog’s nose. “You’re home. Safe and sound. That’s all that matters.”
“And you love me,” she added, earning a large smile from him.
“Right, and I love you,” he said before kissing her.

Jill comes from a large family with six siblings, including an identical twin. She was raised in the Pacific Northwest and later relocated to Colorado for college and a successful IT career before discovering her talent for writing sweet and sexy page-turners. After Colorado, she decided to move south, living in Texas and now making her home along the Emerald Coast of Florida. You will find that the settings of several of her series are inspired by her time spent living in these areas. She has two sons and off-set the testosterone in her house by adopting three furry little ladies that provide her company while she’s locked in her writing cave. She enjoys heading to the beach, hiking, swimming, wine-tasting, and pickleball with her husband, and of course writing. If you have read any of her books, you may also notice that there is a love of food, especially sweets! She has been blamed for a few added pounds by her assistant, editor, and fans… donuts or pie anyone?
